Integration of Subwavelength Nanostructures in Silicon Waveguides: New Phenomena and Applications

FMC Editor Seminars IFIMAC Plasmonics, Photonics
images

Dielectric and metallic nanostructures can be tailored to provide unusual interaction with light waves. For example, they support localized resonances highly sensitive to the surroundings, complex scattering patterns and ultrafast nonlinearities.

Multi-scale Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Photoactive Molecules Strongly Interacting With Confined Light

FMC Editor Seminars IFIMAC Plasmonics, Photonics
images

When photoactive molecules strongly interact with confined light, for instance inside optical cavities or near (localised) surface plasmons, new hybrid light-matter states may form, the so-called polaritons or plexcitons.

The Department originated from the Physics Department created by Prof. Nicolás Cabrera in the early 1970s. It currently conducts intense research in numerous fields of Condensed Matter Physics and Biophysics. Energy, transport, nanotechnology, health and environment, information and communication technologies are the key technologies of the twenty-first century. Condensed Matter Physics provides the methods to engineer and develop new ideas in most of these technologies. Using advanced instrumentation, such as state-of-the-art microscopy, spectroscopy, and calculation techniques, we can control and directly observe fascinating phenomena belonging to the challenges of technical development.
